The week after the theory course is the pool lesson. This is usually held at a public swimming pool or in a confined environment. This is a long lesson and starts from 9am to 3pm. The first half is usually spent familiarizing with the equipments and basic underwater breathing techniques. The exercise I remembered most is to flood our mask and use bubbles from the mouth to clear the mask.
The second half of the pool lesson deals with emergency drills that have to be practiced with your buddy. Things like sharing of mouthpiece and emergency ascent were drilled into us.
After staying in the pool for the whole day, the skin on my fingers started to crumple and became very dry. My un-exposed skin is tanned. Next up is the actual trip and putting the two lessons to real use. Lastly, I recommend a new diver to use the full body wet suit, not only is it cool, it also keeps you warmer than the shorter wet suit.
Excited about my adventure into the underwater world……….
